He was ultimately triumphant, retained his position on the city council, and was recently named the Most Courageous Elected Official of 2010 by American Atheists.
An author and a journalist, his most recent book Whale Falls: The Exploration of Belief and Its Consequences will be available for sale by the author at the event, as will his internationally acclaimed political biography, The Prince of War: Billy Graham's Crusade for a Wholly Christian Empire.

My talk on 12/20 - a missing dot
I realized shortly after I quit chattering that I'd left out an essential dot in my "connect the dots" report on my Council campaign.
The reason I told the story about our crooked ex-sheriff, and my reporting thereof, is that the two principal financiers of the smear-letter campaign against me turned out to be gambling operatives who'd been in cahoots with the fallen sheriff. So their good "Christian" motives for informing the city of my nontheism were actually rooted in the decline in their fortunes when the county-wide casino was shut down. I was not good for their business.

Dot noted!
Cecil, thanks for the clarification I am sure none of us are at all surprised at the connection.
I think everyone enjoyed your talk last night! You brought in quite a crowd--almost 70 people in a rapt audience. It was refreshing and inspiring to hear about how the smear campaign and attempt to vilify you based on your non-belief in imaginary beings backfired--they turned you into an activist for reason!
Thank you for being such a fine example of Good without God in your work and daily life. Come back to Raleigh and see us!
Cheers! --Sue
Mr. Bothwell and his book
I am so looking forward to this event! And after seeing the Youtube video, I'll be buying his book and reading it with great interest.
